Chamberfest 2010 Closes with a Flourish!
Ottawa (August 7, 2010) ................... The 17th edition of the Ottawa International Chamber
Music Festival wrapped up Saturday night with a performance by the Tokyo String Quartet
featuring works by Schubert, Bartók and Debussy. Just after the intermission, Glenn
Hodgins, Executive Director of the Ottawa Chamber Music Society took to the stage to thank
the public funders, individual donors, patrons, sponsors and volunteers for their support.
“We have had a fantastic 16‐day Festival with 95 wonderful concerts and events! The
programming was excellent, attendance was up from morning to night‐ with patrons clearly
making good use of their passes ‐ and the artistic success is evident in the many
spontaneous and enthusiastic standing ovations for: Frederica von Stade, Stewart Goodyear,
the Pacifica Quartet, Ensemble Caprice, the Afiara Quartet, Alexander Tselyakov, Isabelle
Faust and many more”, said Glenn Hodgins.
Roman Borys, Artistic Director, added: “Every Festival has its own personality and it’s been
extremely rewarding to see Chamberfest 2010 come to life and run its course. Audiences
were very strong. Their warm and enthusiastic response inspired music making of the
highest level. From both the audience and performer perspectives, I think the 2010 Festival
experience rose to a new level and I look forward to contributing to the team effort that will
make 2011 even better!”
Glenn Hodgins, then officially announced the 2010 Concert Series: “We are extremely
pleased to present the St. Lawrence String Quartet, L’Ensemble contemporain de
Montréal, Les Voix Baroques and Orchestra Arion presenting Bach’s well loved St. John
Passion, Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, Borodin Quartet with Julie Nesrallah, and a multi‐
media production of Hans Christian Andersen’s, The Snow Queen with the Cecilia String
Quartet. Subscriptions are on sale now and single tickets will go on sale September 13.”
He concluded by thanking the all the funding partners, without whom the Festival would not
be possible.
As the crowd left the concert, Jean Teron, patron and long‐time supporter of the Festival,
thanked Roman Borys. "The Festival has brought so many highs including: Constantinople;
the Afiara Quartet; Isabelle Faust and the Pacifica Quartet. It is so rewarding to see the very
good attendance and the enthusiastic response of listeners. As always, the artistic direction
and the musical performances by the Gryphon Trio are exceptional!”
