Gatineau Conservatory Trombone Quartet
The Gatineau Conservatory Trombone Quartet is actually made up of three trombones and one tuba: trombonists Jonathan Morasse, Riccardo Del Castello and Melissa Desjardins, and tubist Audray Boivin-Laframboise. All four are currently studying their respective instruments at the Gatineau Conservatory of Music. Since they formed the quartet in 2006 they have played in a fund-raising concert for the Conservatory students, a trombone master class with Donald Renshaw, the Conservatory Chamber Music Festival at the Canadian Museum of Civilization, and at the Kiwanis Music Festival where they won fi rst place. The Conservatory’s trombone teacher, Angus Armstrong, generously donates some of his time to coaching the quartet at regular intervals during the school year.

Le Quatuor de trombones du Conservatoire de musique de Gatineau, c’est en fait composé de trois trombonistes (Jonathan Morasse, Riccardo Del Castello et Melissa Desjardins) et une tubiste (Audray Boivin-Laframboise). Tous font présentement leurs études musicales au Conservatoire de musique de Gatineau. Depuis sa formation en 2006, l’ensemble a joué dans un concert bénéfi ce pour l’Association des élèves du conservatoire, dans une classe de maître pour trombone avec Donald Renshaw, au Festival de musique de chambre du Conservatoire au Musée canadien des civilisations, et au Festival Kiwanis d’Ottawa où ils se sont mérités la première place. Le professeur de trombone du Conservatoire, Angus Armstrong, donne généreusement de son temps pour aider le quatuor à s’améliorer durant l’année.
Renée-Paule Gauthier

In his book on violin virtuosos, published in 1997,
Henry Roth states that Renée-Paule Gauthier is one of
the best upcoming violinists of the new generation. A
winner in several competitions, including the Canadian
Music Competition and concerto competition of the
Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, she is a graduate
of the Université de Montréal and Eastman School
of Music and also studied with Eugene Drucker,
Brian Lewis, Jean-François Rivest, Philip Setzer and
Zvi Zeitlin. She has performed as soloist with orchestras
in her native Quebec. Since 2004, she has been residing
in Ottawa where she plays with the National Arts
Centre Orchestra and the chamber orchestra Thirteen
Strings. She is an active soloist and chamber musician
in the NAC's Music for a Sunday Afternoon series, the
Ottawa and Montreal chamber music festivals and the
Jeunesses Musicales du Canada. She is also artistic
director of the Rendez-vous musical de Laterrière, a
chamber music festival in the Saguenay area. She can
be heard often on CBC/Radio-Canada.
Renée-Paule Gauthier

Dans son livre sur les virtuoses du violon, publié
en 1997, Henry Roth dit de Renée-Paule Gauthier
qu'elle est l'une des meilleures violonistes de la
relève. Lauréate entre autres des concours de
musique du Canada et de concerto de l'Orchestre
symphonique de Montréal, diplômée de l'Université
de Montréal et de la Eastman School of Music, elle
a eu pour maîtres Eugene Drucker, Brian Lewis,
Jean-François Rivest, Phillip Setzer et Zvi Zeitlin. Soliste
invitée de divers orchestres de son Québec natal,
elle vit à Ottawa depuis 2004, où elle joue dans
l'Orchestre du Centre national des Arts et
l'orchestre de chambre Thirteen Strings. Soliste
et chambriste recherchée, elle participe à la série
de musique de chambre du CNA, au Festival
international de musique de chambre d'Ottawa
et de Montréal et aux activités des Jeunesses
Musicales du Canada. Elle est directrice artistique du
Rendez-vous musical de Laterrière, un festival
de musique de chambre dans la région du
Saguenay. Elle se produit souvent sur les ondes de
CBC/Radio-Canada.
John Geggie

John Geggie is greatly in demand as a versatile musician and creative composer in Canada and internationally. He has toured extensively with the award-winning jazz group Chelsea Bridge and Juno-nominated DD Jackson Trio. For the past seven years, he has programmed, curated and performed in the acclaimed Geggie Series at the National Arts Centre’s Fourth Stage Concerts with internationally respected improvising artists such as Ben Monder, George Colligan, Craig Taborn, Sheila Jordan, Andrew Cyrille, Donny McCaslin, and bassist Mark Dresser. For many years, he hosted the Late Night Jam Sessions at the Ottawa International Jazz Festival and has performed, among others, at festivals in Rouen and Maubeuge (France), Molde (Norway), Montreal, New York and Washington, DC. He continues a busy concert schedule with the Thirteen Strings chamber ensemble and National Arts Centre Orchestra. Involved in many recording projects, two CDs of his group playing his compositions will be released this fall. He also teaches at the Crane School of Music, SUNY Potsdam (NY).

Depuis plusieurs années, il anime les séances d’improvisation de fi n de soirée du Festival international de jazz d’Ottawa et a entre autre participé aux festivals de Rouen et Maubeuge (France), Molde (Norvège), Montréal, New York et Washington. Il joue souvent en concert avec l’orchestre de chambre Thirteen Strings et l’Orchestre du Centre national des Arts. Il a souvent endisqué et cet automne, il lancera deux CDs sur lesquels son ensemble joue ses compositions. Il enseigne aussi à la Crane School of Music, SUNY Potsdam (NY).
Lori Gemmell

Lori Gemmell enjoys a diverse career as orchestral musician, chamber musician, soloist and teacher. A graduate of the University of Toronto where she studied with the eminent harpist Judy Loman, she is currently principal harp of the Kitchener- Waterloo Symphony Orchestra. She has been a regular player with Le Nouvel Ensemble Moderne de Montréal with which she toured in Europe and Japan. She forms a harp duo with Jennifer Swartz and has also founded a harp quartet. She has given solo concerto performances with, among others, the National Arts Centre Orchestra, Edmonton and Kitchener-Waterloo symphony orchestras and Orchestra London Canada. In 2000, she won second prize in the Canadian Concerto Competition and in 2001, she participated in the 14th International Harp Contest in Israel. Her solo recording Prelude (2006) is often played on CBC Radio. Lori Gemmell also teaches at Wilfrid Laurier University and maintains a busy private studio in Toronto.

Lori Gemmell poursuit une carrière de musicienne d’orchestre, de chambriste, de soliste et d’enseignante. Diplômée de l’Université de Toronto, élève de la grande harpiste Judy Loman, elle est harpe solo de l’Orchestre symphonique de Kitchener-Waterloo. Elle a aussi joué régulièrement avec le Nouvel Ensemble Moderne de Montréal, aussi en tournée en Europe et au Japon. En plus de former un duo avec Jennifer Swartz, elle a fondé un quatuor harpiste. Elle a été soliste invitée de l’Orchestre du Centre national des Arts, des orchestres symphoniques d’Edmonton et de Kitchener-Waterloo et de l’Orchestra London Canada. En 2000, elle a remporté le deuxième prix du Concours canadien des concertos, et, en 2001, a participé au 14e Concours international de harpe en Israël. CBC Radio fait souvent jouer son enregistrement solo, Prélude (2006). Elle enseigne à l’Université Wilfrid Laurier, tout en se réservant du temps pour enseigner dans son studio de Toronto.
Wallis Giunta

At age 21, Wallis Giunta has already begun what
promises to be a successful operatic career with the
roles of Il Fuso in Respighi's La Bella Dormente nel
Bosco (2007), Hermia in Britten's A Midsummer Night's
Dream (2006), and Susanna in Mozart's Le Nozze di
Figaro (2005). In fall 2006, she performed in Mozart's
Magic Flute with Opera Atelier of Toronto. Most
recently, she placed first for voice at the National
Capital Kiwanis Music Festival. In June 2006, she
won first place in the province at the Ontario Music
Festivals Competition. She also won the National
Association of Teachers of Singing Competition and
received the Most Outstanding Performance Award in
2005. This summer, she is work-shopping a new opera,
John Estacio's Frobisher, at the Banff Centre in Alberta.
She completed her Bachelor of Music degree at The
Glenn Gould School this past April, studying with
Jean MacPhail and Steven Philcox, and will be returning
in the fall for an Artist Diploma.
Wallis Giunta

centre Banff (Alberta). Elle détient un baccalauréat en
musique de l'École Glenn Gould, où elle a étudié avec

Gryphon Trio
Founded in 1993, the Gryphon Trio is acclaimed as one of North
America's premier ensembles, recognized for its interpretations of
standard and contemporary repertoire and its education and outreach
activities. The Trio, based in Toronto, regularly tours throughout Canada
and the United States, and has performed in
Finland, Germany, France, Belgium, Mexico,
Russia, Poland, Greece and Egypt. Committed
to expanding the piano trio repertoire, the
Trio has commissioned and premiered over 40
works by Canadian composers. Recently, the
Trio's groundbreaking multimedia production
of Christos Hatzis' Constantinople completed its
sold-out debut run in London's Royal Opera
House. Ensemble-in-residence at the Music
Toronto chamber music series since 1998, the
Trio produces with Music Toronto the Chamber
at the Lula concerts, combining classical and
jazz repertoire and featuring Cuban and
Brazilian inspired collaborations with noted
jazz artists. The Trio's celebrated discography,
ranging from Haydn to Shostakovich, Silvestrov and Hatzis, includes
Juno award-winning Canadian Premieres. The Trio is heard regularly on
CBC and international radio and television networks. Pianist Jamie
Parker, violinist Annalee Patipatanakoon and cellist Roman Borys all
teach at the University of Toronto.
Gryphon Trio
Fondé en 1993, le Trio Gryphon est un ensemble de chambre de
premier plan. Basé à Toronto, reconnu pour ses interprétations du
répertoire classique et contemporain et pour ses efforts en éducation
et en vulgarisation, il joue partout au Canada et aux États-Unis, et
s'est produit en Finlande, en Allemagne, en
France, en Belgique, au Mexique, en Russie,
en Pologne, en Grèce et en Egypte. Déterminé
à enrichir le répertoire pour trio avec piano,
il a commandé plus de 40 oeuvres à des
compositeurs canadiens. Récemment, il a
produit à guichet fermé au Royal Opera House
(Londres) Constantinople, oeuvre multimédia
du compositeur canadien Christos Hatzis.
Ensemble en résidence à Music Toronto depuis
1998, il produit avec Music Toronto la série
Chamber at the Lula, qui combine classique et
jazz et permet des collaborations d'inspiration
cubaine et brésilienne avec des interprètes de
jazz renommés. Son imposante discographie,
où l'on retrouve notamment Haydn, Chostakovitch, Silvestrov et

Martha Guth

Martha Guth began her career singing under conductors such as Seiji Ozawa, Robert Spano and Helmut Rilling and has performed, among others, with the Canadian Opera Company, Santa Fe Opera, Grazer Oper, and in Mallorca (Spain). In concert, she recently sang at the Vancouver International Song Institute, in the world premiere of Scott Gendel's cycle the space between at Lincoln Center, and on a debut Atlantic tour. Other recitals and concerts, often recorded by CBC and BBC, have included London's St John's, Smith Square with the Young Songmakers, the Toronto Symphony, Calgary Philharmonic, Aldeburgh Connection (Toronto), National Arts Centre Debut Series (Ottawa), Jeunesses Musicales (Montreal), and recitals throughout Europe and North America. As winner of the 2007 Wigmore Hall/Kohn Foundation International Song Competition, she will perform in recital in London's Wigmore Hall, accompanied by pianist Graham Johnson. Upcoming opera appearances include the Countess in Mozart's Marriage of Figaro at Opera Lyra (Ottawa), and Manon in Massenet's Manon at Opera in the Heights (Houston).
