I FURIOSI Baroque Ensemble

I FURIOSI Baroque Ensemble, one of the world's most innovative Baroque groups, began presenting concerts in 1999 and quickly gained national and international recognition for its daring and avant garde repertoire. The ensemble is formed by four of Canada's leading early music specialists: soprano Gabrielle McLaughlin (founding member and programme coordinator), violinists Aisslin Nosky and Julia Wedman, and cellist/gambist Felix Deak (founding member). For almost a decade, I FURIOSI's Toronto concert series has been a revitalizing force on the Canadian early music scene, inspired by the practice of the Baroque era while invoking the "bizarre and unnatural" aesthetic both cherished and despised in its time. The four informed and accomplished musicians bring their skill and expertise to new audiences in wide-ranging and rarely heard repertoire. I FURIOSI has just returned from a tour of Ireland, where they played at the Galway Early Music Festival. The ensemble has also toured Germany, England and the United States. I FURIOSI's debut CD Defiled is my (Middle) Name (2005) continues to gain international acclaim. Their new CD Crazy! will be released in fall 2008.

L'Ensemble baroque I FURIOSI

I FURIOSI, l'un des ensembles baroques les plus innovants du monde, commença à présenter des concerts en 1999 et se fit rapidement connaître sur la scène nationale et internationale pour son répertoire audacieux et avant-gardiste. L'ensemble se compose de quatre spécialistes canadiens de la musique ancienne: la soprano Gabrielle McLaughlin (membre fondatrice), les violonistes Aisslin Nosky et Julia Wedman et le violoncelliste/gambiste Felix Deak (membre fondateur). Pendant presque une décennie, sa série de concerts à Toronto a revitalisé le milieu canadien de la musique ancienne, inspirée par les pratiques de la période baroque mêlées à l'esthétique " bizarre et artificielle " à la fois chérie et haïe à l'époque. Ces quatre musiciens informés, talentueux et compétents font découvrir à de nouveaux publics un répertoire très varié et souvent peu connu. L'ensemble vient de rentrer d'une tournée en Irlande, où il a joué au Galway Early Music Festival. Il s'est également produit en Allemagne, en Angleterre et aux États-Unis. Philippe Ivanov – piano

Philippe Ivanov was born in 1988 in Belgium into a family of Bulgarian musicians. He began piano studies at age five and, after winning a national piano competition at age nine, made his orchestral debut, playing a Mozart piano concerto. At age 12, he entered the Brussels Royal Conservatory in the class of Daniel Blumenthal. In 2002, he won Belgium's National Radio/Television Tenuto Competition and the opportunity to represent Belgium at the EBU's 2004 Eurovision Young Musicians competition in Lucerne. He has participated in many festivals in Europe and the United States. In 2002, he performed Prokofiev's first piano concerto with the Flemish Radio Symphony Orchestra and in 2007, he played Liszt's first piano concerto with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Flanders. He has attended master classes with, among others, Anatol Ugorski, Francois-René Duchable, Menachem Pressler and Zoltán Kocsis. He has been studying with Louis Lortie since 2004 at Italy's renowned international piano institute in Imola.

Philippe Ivanov – piano

Philippe Ivanov est né en 1988 en Belgique, dans une famille de musiciens bulgares. À cinq ans, il s'initie au piano. À neuf ans, il remporte un concours national, ce qui l'amène à faire ses débuts avec orchestre en interprétant un concerto de Mozart. À douze ans, il est accepté au Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles dans la classe de Daniel Blumenthal. En 2002 il emporte le Concours National de la Radio/Télévision Belge Tenuto, ce qui lui donne l'opportunité de représenter la Belgique au douzième Concours Eurovision des Jeunes Musiciens à Lucerne en 2004. Il s'est produit dans plusieurs festivals en Europe et aux États-Unis. Il a interprété un concerto de Prokofiev avec l'Orchestre de la Radio Flamande en 2002 et un concerto de Liszt avec la Philharmonie Royale de Flandres en 2007. Il a participé aux classes de maître d'Anatol Ugorski, Francois-René Duchable, Menachem Pressler et de Zoltán Kocsis. Il étudie auprès de Louis Lortie à la prestigieuse École de piano d'Imola en Italie depuis 2004.
