After an exciting run
the Online Auction for the Arts
officially closes!
$100,882.95 raised for the Ottawa Arts Community!
The Online Auction for the Arts fundraiser, hosted by the Ottawa Chamber Music
Society in support of the Concert
Hall, officially closed on Thursday, December 15 at 11:59 pm after
4752 hours of online bidding. With 87% of the 1397 donated items receiving
bids and over 500,000 hits to the auction site, $100,882.95 was raised
for the Ottawa Arts Community and the Concert Hall.
As well as receiving bids from coast-to-coast nationally, the 2005 Online
Auction for the Arts had a global reach with winning bidders from as far
away as Australia and Trinidad. Some of the feature winning items included
two luxury one-year leases at
Ottawa’s 50 Laurier apartments, a trip of a lifetime to the Sabi Sabi Game Reserve in South Africa, a Boston grand piano contributed
by Lauzon Music Centre, and a private piano lesson with Angela Hewitt.
Overall the auction was a great success and registered users have stated
how much it will be missed. Buoyed by this success the Ottawa Chamber
Music Society will be bringing back the popular fundraiser in 2006.
The Concert Hall, in the heart
of the Nation’s Capital at 150 Elgin Street, will provide superb
acoustics for performing, recording and broadcasting, and will offer a
beautiful facility for all music lovers. Offering old-world, natural acoustics
of the best European concert halls, it will be wired for the 21st century.
This 925-seat hall will be a cultural landmark of national and international
significance. The future Concert Hall will be the ideal complement and
means to revitalize a crucial section of the heart of Ottawa setting the
stage for pleasurable and exciting downtown living. Thirty
area Arts groups have stated that they will use the Concert Hall.
