Canada’s who’s who of music at the Festival!

Ottawa (Tuesday, June 20, 2006) – We close the 13th Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival with the 120th concert in what has become an annual tradition, on Saturday, August 5, 8 pm at Dominion-Chalmers United Church, 355 Cooper St. (at O’Connor). The Festival’s Greatest Hits is always at the top of the list of audience favourites! This year’s Gala Closing Concert will feature several renowned Canadian musicians in a Pass-plus concert.

This is a remarkable gathering of some of the very best Canadian musicians with major international careers coming together in this celebration of music and the end of the 13th Festival including: Shannon Mercer – soprano, Daniel Taylorcounternor, Joanna G’froerer – flute, Kimball Sykes – clarinet, Jonathan Crow, Andrew Dawes, Manuela Milani, Stephen Sitarski – violin, Guylaine Lemaire – viola, Julian Armour and Paul Marleyn – cello, Murielle Bruneau – double bass, Naida Cole, Stéphane Lemelin, Paul Stewart and Andrew Tunis – piano, Marc-André Lalonde – percussion, The Theatre of Early Music and many others.

Festival’s Greatest Hits is a tradition that became an instant hit in 2003 when favourites were performed from the Festival’s history. “The 2003 concert was such a hit with our audience that I immediately realized this was going to become an ongoing tradition,” explains the Festival’s Artistic Director Julian Armour.

Music by Handel, Bach, Widor, Mahler, Liszt, Tchaikovsky, Schubert and others will be featured. “The highlight of the concert is sure to be the Carnival of the Animals by Saint-Saëns,” says Armour.  This piece is always a big crowd pleaser.
