Anna Ludlow & Friends
Ottawa fiddler Anna Ludlow hails from Antigonish, Nova Scotia, and has been rocking the Canadian Celtic and folk scene for the past 2 decades. Known for her dynamic performances, she is a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and songwriter who captivates audiences, giving listeners a modern taste of Celtic history and culture in what Ludlow calls “a true kitchen party experience.” She’s a musician for whom rhythm matters deeply: “I really want to drive the beat, a lively beat.” Above all, she wants to engage her audience. “I always get people up to dance.” For her performance at La Nouvelle Scène Gilles Desjardins, Ludlow will be accompanied by Ottawa pianist Tyson Chen, Graham Lindsey (guitar), and dancers from Change of Step.
Ludlow started performing as a pre-teen and opened for the Beach Boys when she was 19. After collaborating with some of Canada’s most renowned artists, Ludlow became the principal fiddler for the Juno-nominated, critically acclaimed, international touring production DRUM!, and in 2018 she became the inaugural fiddle player for the Tony award-winning hit show Come From Away. Outside of theatre work, Ludlow is influenced by her working-class Celtic ancestry and fuses the traditional Cape Breton music of the Scottish Gàidhealtachd (the Highlands and Islands of Scotland) with a modern percussive vibe. With over 8 multi-award nominations, multiple performances on The Marilyn Denis Show, and a feature on Bell Fibe TV, you won’t want to miss this local favourite. You can also find Ludlow touring and recording with multiple bands across Canada.
