You can play a vital role in one of the world’s largest chamber music festivals. With the help of our many dedicated volunteers, Ottawa Chamberfest offers audiences an impressive variety of concerts and events featuring artists from across Canada and around the world.

Volunteers who contribute their time, energy, experience – and passion for music – are indispensable to the smooth operation of a festival and concert series of this magnitude. Everyone has skills to contribute!

Chamberfest volunteer roles for students (16+ years of age) and adults include: ushering, supervision, mobility assistant, production, Chamberfest Ambassador, and publicity distribution. Job Descriptions

Usher

  • Greet patrons, artists’ guests, sponsors, and VIPs
  • Scan tickets/passes
  • Assist guests to find their seat (reserved seating), or direct to available seating (general admission)
  • Ensure aisles are unobstructed and remain clear for emergencies
  • Provide directions to patrons lining up for concerts, manage crowd control
  • Answer inquiries – eg. washroom location, entrance/exit, Chamberfest events and basic information
  • Help with post-concert clean up and signage removal
  • Excellent customer service skills required; must be friendly, personable and professional
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication in English; bilingualism is an asset
  • Must be able to stand, off and on, for 2-3 hours
  • Reports to Front of House Manager and/or designated Supervisor

Production Crew

  • Set up and dismantle stage elements prior to and after the concert
  • Contributes to the efficient movement and placement of chairs, music stands and other stage equipment at the various concert venues
  • Assist with all venue logistics
  • Perform needed set changes
  • Must be a team player and be able to follow complex, detailed instructions
  • Must be in good health and willing and able to perform physical tasks including: moving equipment, loading and unloading trucks, and heavy lifting, if required
  • Accustomed to working in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to attend dress rehearsals and set-up in order to become familiar with the duties related to the concert/event
  • Previous stage experience an asset
  • ***Production Crew volunteers will provide their own steel-toe boots to adhere to the Ministry of Labour Safety Standards. If you need assistance with this requirement, please contact the Head of Production at production@chamberfest.com.
  • ***Please note that these are non-standard shift lengths, depending on the needs of a particular concert/event. Due to the nature of this role, the minimum time commitment for the summer festival is 4 shifts.

Mobility Assistant

  • Provide special assistance to differently abled patrons mobility issues, including helping to their seats before, during and after concerts
  • Responsible to provide extra support to the assigned patron(s) throughout the concert/event, up until the arrival of transport following the end of a concert/event
  • Advised at the Front of House meeting, prior to the concert, of patrons requiring assistance
  • May be required to meet the patron at the drop-off location
  • Excellent customer service skills required; must be friendly, personable and professional
  • Must be physically able to help when necessary
  • Reports to Front of House Manager and/or designated Supervisor
  • ***Note: Para Transpo customers are helped in and out of their vehicles by the drivers

Community Engagement and Education (CEE) Volunteer

  • Be hands-on event support for kids, family, and interactive events
  • Count attendees at free events
  • Intact with guests in a friendly and outgoing manner
  • Prepare, distribute, and supervise activities (if applicable)
  • Must be able to stand, off and on, for 1-2 hours
  • Able to work outdoors
  • Bilingualism is an asset
  • Reports to On-site Supervisor
  • Greenroom Attendant

    • Be the first point of contact for artists at our events
    • Remain at the designated greenroom before, during, and after the concert
    • Kindly direct patrons away from the greenroom or related hallways
    • Ensure artists remain undisturbed and comfortable in the venue space
    • Reports to Front of House Manager and/or designated Supervisor

    Chamberfest Ambassador

    • Be the face of Ottawa Chamberfest at our outdoor concerts, school and other community events
    • Count attendees at free events
    • Interact with the public in a friendly and outgoing manner
    • Distribute flyers and event information, if made available
    • Must be able to stand, off and on, for 1-2 hours
    • Able to work outdoors
    • Bilingualism is an asset
    • Reports to On-site Supervisor
