Introducing Viano String Quartet
Praised for their “huge range of dynamics, massive sound and spontaneity,” (American Record Guide) the young Vianos won First Prize at the 2019 Banff International String Quartet Competition and are the current Nina von Maltzahn String Quartet-in-Residence at the Curtis Institute of Music. Formed in 2015 at the Colburn Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles, the Vianos have performed internationally and, in their formative years, received an unbroken streak of top prizes before any of the members turned 20. In 2019, unable to tour, Canadian Viano member Lucy Wang (violin) began sharing music over social media, attracting old and new classical music fans alike with over 50 million views and 500,000 followers worldwide. At their Chamberfest debut, The Viano String Quartet will perform Smetana’s folky string quartet From My Life and music by Piazzola, Pulitzer Prize-winner Caroline Shaw, and Chamberfriend Kevin Lau.
