Sarah Slean & Ironwood Quartet
Canadian bright light Sarah Slean is a four-time JUNO- and two-time GEMINI-nominated performer, and a CSA-winning composer with 25 years of wide-ranging experience in music. Joined by Ottawa’s Ironwood Quartet, this special collaboration will feature Sarah’s original chamber compositions, vintage Sarah Slean from the vault, and the world premiere of three new works for voice, piano, and string quartet. The programme will also include Jonny Pippy of Pouch Cove, on a Bicycle at Dawn from the JUNO award-winning album Mosaique, commissioned and premiered by Ensemble Made In Canada. For Jonny Pippy, Slean and the Ironwoods will create a portrait in song of a Newfoundland character’s bike ride by the sea, illustrating Slean’s love of melody and storytelling.
Slean is thrilled to perform alongside Ironwood Quartet, composed of violinists Jessica Linnebach and Emily Kruspe, cellist Rachel Mercer, and Chamberfest’s Artistic Director and violinist/violist Carissa Klopoushak. The Ironwoods’ history of broad repertoire and extensive, inclusive musical interests makes them the perfect partners for Slean’s eclectic offerings. Together, Slean and Ironwood will take us from original pop poetry to chamber music and back again. Don’t miss the magic as this unique performance is one-night-only.
