Dear Jeanne: A Tribute to Jeanne Lamon
Yolanda Bruno, Pascale Giguere, and Christina Mahler pay homage to Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra’s former leader and violinist, Jeanne Lamon. In this two-part presentation at the Ottawa Art Gallery, the legacy and accomplishments of Jeanne Lamon will be celebrated through both live performance and film.
The first half of this afternoon’s performance is a programme of Baroque trios, featuring compositions by Jean-Marie Leclair, Antonio Vivaldi, and Lamon’s own arrangement of Bach’s beloved Chaconne. Honouring Lamon’s memory through music that was near to her heart, these three musicians offer a tender and profound afternoon dedicated to an innovator, leader, and world-class violinist.
After intermission, the audience will be treated to a film screening of “The Immortal Serafin” a film produced by Bruno, directed by Robert DiVito, and developed by Michael Bridge. The film tells the story of Lamon’s Serafin violin, made in Venice, Italy. Through interviews with Ric Heinl, violin antiquarian and restorer, Jaak Liivoja, former Tafelmusik violinist and restorer, and Ottie Lockey, former longtime managing director of Tafelmusik, alongside Bruno’s own performance and reflections, the film uses ancient and precious violins as a metaphor for the care we must bring to climate conservation.
