• Shuann Chaipiano

Following the exhilarating Midday Matinée performance by Shunske Sato and Shuann Chai, join us for an engaging workshop on the 18th-century fortepiano, led by internationally renowned pianist Shuann Chai. Taking place in two parts, this afternoon’s workshop will begin with a short introduction by Chai on the main structural differences between the fortepiano and its modern counterpart, followed by an informal workshop period where students from Ottawa-Gatineau region as well as anyone in the keyboard community who wishes to participate are invited to try out repertoire on both instruments, comparing and contrasting the performance experience between the two.

Drawing on her vast expertise in historically informed performance, Chai guides students through the fortepiano’s distinctive acoustic and expressive qualities, sharing insights and techniques with the next generation of keyboard musicians.

Chamberfest masterclasses are free and open to the public—everyone is welcome to attend!

This workshop directly follows the Midday Matinée performance Shunske Sato & Shuann Chai: Violin Sonatas with (Forte)piano.
