A one-night-only Guitarfest with more than 50 guitars!
OTTAWA, ON — Ottawa Chamberfest and Guitar Alla Grande present Guitarfest, an electrifying Valentine’s Day celebration of the classical guitar. This one-night-only event brings together two of the world’s leading guitar ensembles, the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet (LAGQ) and the Canadian Guitar Quartet (CGQ), on Saturday, February 14 at 7:00 PM at Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre.
Marking their Ottawa debut, the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet – widely recognized as one of America’s premier instrumental ensembles – joins forces with Canada’s own acclaimed Canadian Guitar Quartet for an unforgettable evening of quartets, octets, and a spectacular massed-guitar finale featuring more than 50 guitars on stage.
The evening opens with the Canadian Guitar Quartet, beloved by Chamberfest audiences following multiple festival appearances. Known for their eclecticism and technical brilliance, CGQ will perform world premieres from their Well-Tempered Four Seasons collection.
Both quartets then unite for a vibrant collaboration, presenting a groove-filled medley inspired by South American folk traditions. After intermission, LAGQ takes the spotlight, showcasing the inventive programming, genre-crossing flair, and joyful musicality that have earned them international acclaim.
The concert culminates in a thrilling Guitarfest finale: La valse des temps nouveaux by Patrick Roux, performed by LAGQ, CGQ, and a full ensemble of local guitarists drawn from Guitar Alla Grande, Ottawa’s classical guitar festival. Roux is a locally based composer and guitarist who teaches at the University of Ottawa and the Conservatoire de musique de Gatineau, and is a founding member of the Canadian Guitar Quartet. This powerful collaboration celebrates the depth of the city’s guitar community while delivering a rare and exhilarating sonic experience.
