NMN I: John Estacio at 60
Chamberfest is delighted to present an afternoon of music celebrating one of Canada’s most frequently performed composers, John Estacio. Marking his 60th birthday this year, Estacio has enjoyed a rich and multifaceted career, with milestones that include five JUNO Award nominations, residencies across Canada, performances around the world, and commissions from leading organizations such as the National Arts Centre Orchestra, Calgary Opera, and the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity.
This afternoon, baritone Ihor Mostovoi joins the celebrated Gryphon Trio alongside wind and string chamber musicians for a programme devoted to the music of John Estacio. Opening with Navigations for string trio, the concert journeys through chamber works that showcase Estacio’s lyrical voice, expressive storytelling, and vibrant musical imagination. Mostovoi performs Away and Awake, a poignant song cycle exploring themes of memory, longing, and reflection, before the programme concludes with Estacio’s energetic Sinfonietta for wind quintet, premiered by the National Arts Centre Orchestra’s principal winds in 2014.
Proudly Canadian, deeply expressive, vibrant, and layered, this inspiring afternoon shines a spotlight on one of the country’s premier compositional voices.
