Ahmed Moneka

Ahmed Moneka is a multidisciplinary artist specializing in acting in theatre/film and Afro-Middle Eastern music. Originally from Baghdad, Iraq, and of Kenyan descent, Ahmed was raised by a musical family honouring and preserving their Afro-Iraqi culture and traditions. His primary influence as an artist stems from his personal life experiences in Iraq and his experience as a refugee, having sought asylum in Canada almost 8 years ago after receiving death threats for starring in a film about homosexuality. He developed a strong passion for stories of human struggle and freedom, forming his convictions about human rights through art, voice and song. Ahmed’s main purpose as an artist is to spread love, peace, acceptance, and a sense of a “global community” by connecting cultures, consequently countering the negative, stereotypical Western perspective of Middle Eastern culture.
