Arkora

Arkora is an electric vocal chamber consort working at the intersection of contemporary classical, jazz fusion, and ancient music. Past projects – ranging from microtonal choral music of the Renaissance and present day to film and art song collaborations have been called “the standout event of Vancouver’s spring music season” (Vancouver Observer) and “an experience of deep and darkling beauty” (The Austin Chronicle). Arkora has been featured by Sound Symposium (St. John’s), Ear Heart Music (Brooklyn), Redshift Music (Vancouver), and Church of the Friendly Ghost (Austin). Upcoming projects include a Canadian 2022 tour, the launch of Mystics, Prophets, Poets, a project exploring connections between Carnatic music, jazz, and medieval chant, and Eurydice Fragments, a non-binary retelling of the Orphean myth using immersive techniques and virtual reality in collaboration with Re:Naissance Opera. Arkora is run by co-artistic directors Benton Roark and Kathleen Allan.
